Beau’s heart filled with hope as he gazed at his friend’s handsome face. “You know what I wish, Lucian? I wish this business became so successful for us that I could stop working for my dad.” He didn’t add how great it would be to spend more time with Lucian, to be alongside him as a partner.

Lucian moved away from Beau as he answered. “There’s a funny little diner at the end of the block. Are you sure you have the time?”

Beau closed the window. “I have time. I’m guessing no one will scale the walls, but all the same I’ll close this.” He let Lucian lead him down to the street door and watched him lock up. “Email me the website address later. I’m dying to see it. This is so exciting, huh, Lucian?”

He walked beside Lucian with his hands safely tucked into his leather jacket pockets so that he didn’t accidently catch hold of Lucian’s hand as they walked.

“Mason, MASON, MASON!” Skylar panicked.

“I know. Skylar, hold on tight. I’m going to brake.”

“But there are cars behind us.” 

“We have no choice. Don’t worry. I got this.” Mason pushed down on the brake forcefully. The car hydroplaned to the right. “Hold on.” 

Skylar gripped the first thing her hand found. The water from the road jetted up into the air like in a water show, but the car kept gliding sideways, until finally it spun in a full circle and stopped. With no time to waste, Mason turned it to the right and accelerated, hoping to dodge what was coming toward them.

Out of nowhere, a long piece of ice, taking the form of a spear, darted through the trucks’ tires and punctured some of them. More ice spears came soaring out of the rain, but this time ten or more sphere-like ice balls followed, denting the sides of the trucks. One went through a windshield. With flat tires, the trucks now glided as if skating on ice, maneuvering from side to side.

“Did you do that?” Skylar asked excitedly.

“No. Must be Poseidon’s kids. Where the hell are they?” Mason spread his right arm out in front of Skylar as if to protect her. “Bend down, Sky.” 

One of the trucks hit another and veered off, hitting yet another one. The crash caused the trucks to flip and tumble, heading straight for Mason’s car. With a look of shock, Skylar held her breath. There was no time to move, think, or get out of the car, so she closed her eyes and prepared for the crash.

Seconds before impact, Mason’s car flew up into the air and over the trucks. Somehow, as if by magic, the water created a liquid bridge, guiding the car safely over, and then it thumped hard onto the ground on the other side. Without looking back, Mason sped away as the sound of screeching brakes and metal hitting metal blasted behind them.

“What just happened?” Skylar yelped. “Did you do that?” Everything had happened so fast. Adrenaline had rushed through her body so rapidly, she’d had no time for fear. Once it was over, she was amazed and stunned speechless. 

“No, I didn’t. Poseidon’s kids. It’s the only explanation. They can manipulate water. I had it handled. There was no need for them to show off. Lots of civilians are hurt.” Mason sounded irritated, perhaps because he wasn’t the hero this time around or perhaps he truly did care for those people he didn’t know. 

Amazed by their abilities, wherever they were, Skylar was grateful for their showing off. Though Mason claimed he’d had the situation handled, Skylar thought otherwise, but kept her opinion to herself.  

Fire and heavy smoke spiraled into the sky behind them. The trucks had mostly slammed against each other, except for one. Guilt consumed her, thinking about the innocent people who’d happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. She couldn’t dwell on her remorse. She saw the same white truck, now joined by a black truck, tailing them. “It’s the white truck again, but there’s another one behind it.”

“I see them,” Mason said with a sly tone, looking in the rearview mirror. “Let’s see if they can follow.”

In the beginning, Golden worked the standard corporate rat race, completed college for a Chemical Engineering Degree, and began a small photography company on the side. 

Since then, and the growth of the FuriousFotog brand, Golden became an internationally published modeling/fitness photographer and eventually began working as a book cover model.

“What about that one?” Randi asked, grabbing Paige’s arm and motioning toward a tall cowboy standing a few feet away. He filled out his jeans exceedingly well, but he was too burly to be Paige’s ideal model.

“No. He isn’t the one.” She turned away to study the crowd and continued walking down an aisle past vendors selling Christmas ornaments and jewelry.

“Oh, that one’s nice,” Randi whispered, drawing Paige’s gaze to a swaggering cowboy making his way down a crowded aisle in front of them.

“Too bowlegged.”

Randi fisted a hand on her hip and studied her sister. “You’re terribly picky for someone desperately searching for a cowboy willing to have his butt exploited to benefit your career.”

Paige swallowed the mint she’d been sucking on and coughed, choking on the candy.

With feigned innocence, Randi thumped her on the back. “What? I’m just telling the truth.”

The glare Paige tossed at her only made her laugh. “Come on. The perfect behind has to be around here somewhere.” Randi tugged her down another aisle. The two of them stopped to admire a booth selling hand-knit scarves. “I think I’ll start my own list, like Santa’s, for all the good little boys. “Don’t you feel the slightest bit of shame, ogling men’s backsides when you’re a married woman?” Paige took note of a cowboy with an exceptionally good-looking face, but when he turned around, he didn’t meet her criteria of what she was looking for in the jean department.

“No, I do not. I may be married, but I’m not dead. Besides, this is all in fun and I’m only staring at butts to help you. If you think I make a habit of gawking at men’s rumps, you are sadly mistaken. Dave’s cute little…”

Paige slapped her hands over her ears. “Too much information, Miranda Marie. I don’t want to hear anything about my brother-in-law that will make me embarrassed to look him in the eye the next time I see him.”

Randi giggled. “Okay. I’ll take it down a notch.” She walked close to Paige, categorizing the men the encountered as they continued meandering through the booths. “Nice. Meh, he’s okay. Oh, that one is nice.” She pointed to a cowboy walking past them and waggled her eyebrows. “Really nice.” Suddenly, she stopped and gaped at a cowboy standing across the aisle, talking to someone behind the counter at a booth selling a variety of tack. “Whoa, Nelly! He’s got to be on the top of Santa’s naughty list with a fine form like that.”
